Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a talking therapy that enables you to explore the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

We work to identify and change unhelpful thinking styles and patterns of behaviour to improve mood, reduce anxiety and develop practical strategies for improving your wellbeing on a daily basis.

Unlike some other talking treatments, CBT deals with your current problems rather than focusing on issues from your past.

Psychological therapy, tailored to you

You will develop strategies to change how you think and behave.

During your CBT sessions you and your Psychologist will map out how your difficulties started, what the current triggers are, and how certain thoughts, emotional responses and behaviours are maintaining the problem. You will have a copy of this map so that you can keep it on your phone and begin to recognise for yourself when these triggers are occurring.

Next there will be a session of psychoeducation, or what we like to call ‘the interesting bit’. This is where you learn about why your brain and body respond to certain events in unhelpful ways (spoiler alert: evolution probably has a big role to play in it). This understanding is key to then being able to tackle it in more helpful ways.

Together with your Psychologist,  you will develop strategies to change how you think and behave, so that you can start living the life that you really want, instead of being weighed down by limiting beliefs and actions.
