Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)

Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)

CFT can be helpful in problems relating to persistent feelings of shame and self-criticism, which often underpin other mental health conditions such as depression

Early experiences such as bullying or growing up with a critical family member can lead to high levels of shame and self-criticism in adulthood. You may feel that this 'inner critic' is necessary to keep you motivated to do more and be better, but research demonstrates that the opposite is true.

When we develop a warm, connected and kind relationship with ourselves and others, we feel more balanced

When we develop a warm, connected and kind relationship with ourselves and others we feel more balanced and have greater emotional regulation. This can have a positive impact on many different aspects of our life including physical health, productivity and relationships.

CFT will teach you how our tricky brains have evolved to overthink our perceived shortcomings, in order to protect us from rejection. We will help you to gain a deeper understanding of why and how self-criticism and emotional disturbance occurs. You will be taught techniques to treat yourself with compassion and kindness, to manage emotional distress and to activate an inner sense of peace and calm.
