Anxiety
Anxiety is a completely normal and natural response to threat and we will all experience anxious feelings sometimes.
Psychological therapy, tailored to you
However for some people, anxiety can become overwhelming and may lead to other difficulties such as panic attacks, body pains and discomfort
The purpose of anxiety is to alert us to danger and enable us to either flee or fight said danger. The idea being that once we’re safe again, equilibrium is restored in the body and mind and we can enjoy the rest of our day.
Anxiety can be seen as an over-thinking disorder. When you experience ongoing anxiety your mind is constantly hypervigilant to the next threat. It will overpredict catastrophic outcomes to situations and underpredict your ability to cope with danger. As your body is frequently preparing to fight or flee, you can experience symptoms of breathlessness, tightness in the chest, blurred vision, muscle tension and sweating. All because the mind is trying to keep us safe!
The good news is that anxiety does respond well to a number of different therapies. Here at Brightside we will work with you to understand when and how the anxiety started. We can address the underlying reasons for the anxiety and provide you with techniques to reduce the sense of threat, balance thoughts and help you to live a life that is no longer controlled by an overthinking mind.
I am so, so glad I visited Sophie.
I am so, so glad I visited Sophie. She was welcoming, sympathetic and got to the heart of my long-term problems in an unhurried but professional way. She gave me some excellent strategies for
coping that I am still using.
