About Dr Niall

Dr Niall has a longstanding career in Psychology spanning therapeutic work, research, teaching and leadership in Psychology. He is Reader in Health Psychology and Head of the Centre for Psychological Research at the University of Wolverhampton, and has also worked therapeutically within NHS and private services. 


His therapeutic training includes person-centred therapy, CBT, ACT and Attachment-based work. He has worked with people adjusting to significant changes in their life including relationship breakdown, physical health challenges, bereavement and loss. Dr Niall is skilled in working with people with anxiety, depression and other common mental health difficulties and he brings a neuro-affirming lens to his work for people who identify as neurodivergent. Dr Niall can help you to make sense of your difficulties, where they started and what maintains them. He can teach psychological skills and practices that can help you to change the thought patterns and behaviours that keep you feeling stuck.


Alongside his clinical work, Dr Niall has led and contributed to a wide range of funded research and has published extensively on health, wellbeing, help-seeking, bereavement, occupational stress and mental health. He also has considerable experience in teaching, doctoral supervision, training and consultation and he currently leads the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of Wolverhampton.
